Where Measured MET

To get a "true" surface wind it has to be measured at a reasonable distance from the actual ground to avoid the effects of surface friction. To that end, it is measured 10m above the ground, by an anemometer away from obstructions such as trees and buildings. The top of an ATCATC —Air Traffic Control tower often makes an excellent spot.
